Robert H. Bartels, CHFM

Robert Bartels is the president and founder of Safety Management Services, Inc. (SMS, Inc.) During his 30+ year career, Mr. Bartels has managed safety programs in three major teaching hospitals in the Midwest and has been a consultant on the Joint Commission’s Environment of Care standards to hundreds of facilities. Mr. Bartels has served as a consultant and faculty member to the Joint Commission, as well as teaching numerous national and regionally-based programs over the years for the AHA and the National Safety Council. He has also served on the NFPA Life Safety Code 101 Committee and published numerous articles related to facility, safety and Joint Commission standards. Mr. Bartels has a BS degree in safety from Illinois State University and holds the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager designation.

Lori B. Dinney, MS PE

Lori Dinney is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a BS in chemical engineering and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a MS in fire protection engineering. She has extensive experience in health care engineering, particularly related to code compliance, construction plan reviews, surveys for life safety, the development of equivalencies, and in building/commissioning fire suppression systems. Ms. Dinney is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), and American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE), and has served as an alternate for the NFPA Technical Committee on Healthcare Occupancies.

Lorrie Jansen-Adams, CHSP

Lorrie Jansen-Adams is a graduate of the University of North Texas with a BS in emergency management planning and administration, and the Community College of the Air Force with a AAS in information systems technology. She has over ten years’ experience in health care safety; most recently, serving as the hospital safety officer at Harris Methodist H.E.B. Hospital and Cook Children’s Medical Center, both in Forth Worth, Texas. She has a wide range of experience in all seven areas of the Environment of Care, with particular focus in the areas of emergency management, fire safety, and safety. Ms. Adams conducts audits of EC Programs, prepares Statement of Conditions (SOC/eSOC) and Life Safety Code Analysis, prepares facilities for JC survey, acts as an interim safety officer, and consults on-site for EC Program development.

William M. Wagner, ScD CHSP CHCM

Dr. Wagner is a graduate of Emory University with a BS in physics, Georgia Institute of Technology with a MS in physics &nuclear engineering, and The Johns Hopkins University with a ScD in environmental health: lung disease. He is retired from the US Public Health Service (US PHS). His appointments with the PHS included the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, as a senior scientist, and at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington, DC, as a research scientist and health administrator for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. During his tenure, he also worked with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), World Health Organization (WHO), Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL), and the College of American Pathology (CAP). He has also worked as an independent consultant for such clients as Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Promina Health System, Kimberly Clark Corporation, and Abbott Laboratories.
